Instructions for Area forecasts for Low Level Flights (SWL)

The SWL consists of a graphic part (charts) and a textual part (OUTLOOK).

The CHART is a graphical representation of the forecast of the distribution of significant MET elements at a fixed validity time of the chart (00, 06, 09, 12, 15 or 18 UTC), and significant MET elements that are expected within +/- 1 hour around that time are plotted.

OUTLOOK describes a significant change in the MET elements, compared to those shown on the chart, over the next 3 hours (for 06, 09, 12, and 15 UTC), and the next 6 hours (for 18 and 00 UTC).

Example:

SWL issuance and validity times

Regular SWLs are issued 6 times a day, and corrections are issued as needed according to defined criteria. The issuing times for regular SWLs and their validity times are shown in the table:

The criteria for entering significant changes in the OUTLOOK are the same as the criteria for issuing AMD, and are defined in the chapter that follows.

MET element

Criteria for significant changes of MET elements

LOW VIS

Formation or disappearance of a widespread* area of surface visibility less than 5000 m.

LOW CLD

Formation or disappearance of a widespread* area of BKN or OVC cloud cover with a base below 1000 FT AMSL.

TS

TSGR

The formation or disappearance of an area with thunder or thunder with hail. These phenomena include cumulonimbus (CB) and associated moderate or severe turbulence and moderate or severe icing.

 * Widespread - in an area of approximately 100 km or more in diameter.

Chart AMD can be issued at any time after the chart has been issued until the validity time of the chart, but also one hour after the validity time.

Example:

For SWL 09 (CHART VALID AT 09, OUTLOOK TILL 12) issued at 04:35 UTC, Chart AMD can be issued between 04:35 and 10:00 UTC.

OUTLOOK AMD can be issued at any time after issuance, until the end of validity. Changes that occur in the last hour of OUTLOOK will not be issued as AMD OUTLOOK, but the change will be included in the following chart.

Example:

For SWL 09 (CHART VALID AT 09, OUTLOOK TILL 12) issued at 04:35 UTC, AMD OUTLOOK can be issued between 04:35 and 11:00 UTC. Changes between 11:00 and 12:00 UTC will be included in the chart for 12 UTC.

If AMD is issued due to additional MET elements or deterioration of already predicted MET elements, then these MET elements are entered in the AMD DUE TO section. If AMD is issued due to the removal or weakening of the predicted MET elements then the AMD DUE TO section will read: IMPROVEMENT OF MET CONDITIONS.

Examples:

Primjer:

Vremena izdavanja i važenja SWL

Redovne SWL se izdaje 6 puta dnevno, a ispravci se izdaju prema potrebi po definiranim kriterijima. Termini izdavanja redovnih SWL i njihova vremena važenja prikazana su u tablici:
